The locals plastered paper hearts over damaged areas of the mosque

Swedish residents have reacted beautifully to an Islamophobic attack against a mosque in Uppsala, by "love-bombing" the exterior with hearts and messages of support.

An average of one mosque is attacked every month in Sweden, according to anti-racism magazine Expo and security has been increased as tensions have increased in the region.

This comes as there has been a rise in Islamophobia throughout Europe. In December, 17,000 people joined an anti-Islam rally in eastern Europe.

Earlier this week, a poll showed that one in eight Germans would join an anti-Islam march if it was held in their town.

The mosque in Uppsala was attacked on New Year's Day and a fire was started after a molotov cocktail was thrown, according to The Local . The mosque's outside wall was also marked with racist graffiti

Although the mosque came under an arson attack, the fire from the molotov cocktail did not spread.
